 POINT OF GRAVITY - EQUILIBRIUM

PLANES AND AXES

Different sources place the Point of gravity (Equilibrium) with little differences, to the level under the navel and at the front of the lumbar-sacral spine. We can safely say that it is located in the pelvic area # IV.1.  Since our physical body is a three dimensional physical object, existing in three dimensional space – environment, a three different motions are guided by the pelvic movement. In reverse it means that by three movements we are able to change the position of the pelvic thus effecting the Point of gravity. However the fourth dimension is a time - existence and it will be explained later.                                                                                                   IV.1

For descriptive anatomical and physiological purposes we divide the human body into three planes: # IV.2. The Sagittal plane passes from front to back and divides the body into right and left sides. The Transversal axis passes perpendicularly through it. The Frontal plane divides the body into front and back halves. It lies at right angles to the Sagittal plane, and the Sagittal axis passes through it. The Transversal plane is at right angles to the previous planes. It divides the body into upper and lower halves and the Vertical axis passes through it.

IV.4

Movements occur in a plane, but about the axis. In reality movements do not occur in one plane, but in several.....for example, while walking, the pelvic moves in 3 plain motions # IV.3.

This is because a series of movements link together to complete the final motion, which we simply see as walking. Stage A is about the Sagittal axis in the Frontal plane. In stage B the motion occurs in the Sagittal plane around the Transversal axis. And finally stage C is about the Vertical axis in the Transversal plane.

Finalizing a physical defensive aspect of Budo we use techniques to totally control our opponent. There are many of possibilities and we must always adjust depend on attacker, numbers of opponents, environment, situation. Any of the successful technique is correct and we cannot be depending on styles. But we should follow the law of physics, anatomy, physiology, biomechanics and kinesiology in general. On that we are depended.

In each good real fight we can see hard (
Katai) and soft (Ju) techniques. Starting with slap, punch, strike or kick and continue with throw, joint lock, sweep or choke.
In these we work with muscles. Any of use of over than 600 corporal muscles always activates our Point of gravity. Here is important to say that there is one anatomical part of brain called
Reticular formation. This is a centre which is continuously informed what is going on in our body, systems, organs, tissues, cells. So nothing happens without to pass information to it.
For centuries all martial arts practitioners were search how to release effective techniques to neutralize an opponent. There was an argument between styles, schools for example which punch is stronger: Wing tsun or Karate or Western boxing? Still the discussion is going on and this case I decided to explain on medical sciences base and physics what is the principle of one and others. To be honest still I can’t explain the esoteric principle of it. Anyway it will finally help to more understand the Equilibrium. Click on

FORCE IN 45 DEGREE

Now look at the pelvic how it is affected by external force # IV.4, 5.

The force (F1) applied on a man standing, either from the front or back, generally moves the pelvic in the Sagittal plane. It means that there is motion in the Transversal axis. When force (F3) is applied from side at 90º, affecting the pelvis around the Sagittal axis, movement occurs in the Frontal plane. Force (F2) applied from any direction of 45º angle, deflects the pelvic in the Transversal plane and moves around the Vertical axis. This is the critical moment for Erecting reflex. Motions around the Transversal (frontal) and Sagittal axis are not that critical because those axis’s are horizontal and does not effect that much in erecting movement. This knowledge we can use to unbalance an opponent and by combination of two force throw him by little effort.

Research I did about a Point of gravity guided me from physical to spiritual level. Nothing new but the problem still we do not applying natural laws into our life. However I feel it is good to explain for others, because there is no miracle just knowledge less only.

Point of gravity is usually situated where the mass of physical object is centered # IV.6 A,B. In homogeny object it is in the middle of it. To approve take a coin # IV.7 and place it on top of the pencil. Now we also noticed that Point of gravity is between the bases of object. If we move the coin a side, means the Point is beside the base coin will fall down. To assure that it is there simple place the coin into standing position as # IV.8. Here edge of the coin is the base. Well, now take the other coin, which has a hole in the middle (Chinese). You can also stand it up # IV.7. Unfortunately you cannot place it on top of the pencil because it has hole in the middle. And still the problem places it where is the mass of the coin, because it will fall down. Now you understand that Point of gravity is not in the mass, but in the hole…where is nothing. Hmmm, really from physical to unphysical, spiritual world…

Until now from four known groups of force (article Forces of the Universe) on the Earth only three are described say in satisfied ways. Definition of force in physics is that it is push or pull. All forces are vectors – they have magnitude and direction. Some force is occurring when one object touches another. Other acts between objects even they are not touching. Talking about the Point of gravity lets focus to gravitational force. It is a force which acts between all objects, on Earth and in Universe. Looking moons on the orbit of their planets we may think that gravitational force is very strong. But it is really weakest of the four forces.
Isaac Newton who first started publish the Law of gravity himself was uneasy with idea how can object exert a force on other in distance even millions of kilometers away.
When Michael Faraday invented the concept of the field to explain how magnet attracts object, concept was applied to gravity:
“…anything that has mass is surrounded by a gravitational field. It is the field that acts on a second body, resulting in a force of attraction”.
